The lizards are still alive

Doing a recent search, I realized that it's been almost a year since my last update on the lizards.  They certainly don't provide the entertainment and photo ops that the parrots do!

In any case, as was the case last year, they are loving summer.  During the winter, I can go weeks without seeing them, but now, I see them every day.

They are reaping the benefit of our CSA as they are getting a wider variety of healthy greens than can be found at a grocery store.  They especially love anything that has yellow flowers on it (though I suspect dandelions are still their favorite.)

They don't like their regular food to eat it out of my hand, so I make sure to feed them special treats like this at every opportunity.

Since they've been out of their hides more, Rocky has renewed his interest in Elsa, as her cage is at his level when he's walking on the floor.  Pretty much every day this week, he's gone up to her, greeted her, and then fake ate her (making chomping and chewing sounds and motions in her direction.)  She is oblivious to this, and he gives up after a few seconds.  I'd love to get it on video, but since it happens so quickly, this is unlikely.

Gardening set-back

Last week in our CSA, we got a tomato plant.  Our last attempt at gardening was unsuccessful, but we decided to try again.  We have a weedy/clovery section of our lawn, so Thomas planted it over there last Friday.  I didn't get around to taking a picture until Saturday, but by that time, there was only a little hint that a tomato plant had ever been there:

Someday we will have a garden, and I will have to try to figure out a way to outsmart the rabbits!  Until then, we'll just have to get our produce elsewhere.

Greys and veggies

Another CSA delivery means the greys getting in on the action.  For instance, competing to take bites out of turnips and beets:

Thomas has devised this wonderful recipe of cooked millet and greens, which is how we've eaten many of the greens.  Max loves it as well!

More CSA photos

As promised last week, more weekly photos of the greys investigating the weekly CSA take.  They are so nosy -- and destructive!  Max investigates the greens:

And then starts ripping the lettuce into tiny pieces.  These lettuce pieces were given to the parrots with their dinner, so as not to go to waste:

This week we got oregano, which joins the mint on our counter.  Fresh herbs are grey magnets, but we're hoping we can use them up before they are completely destroyed:

Since they are so predictable, I can feel comfortable inviting you back next week to see this again!

Radish fight

Our CSA delivery arrived, which meant lots of washing, chopping, storing, cooking, and eating to make sure nothing goes to waste.  One lone radish had yet to be eaten when the greys discovered the bowl:

The greys love the CSA

The greys love it when we go through our CSA box and prepare the different vegetables inside.  They are so curious!  Thomas was washing some greens, and Max flew over to the sink and perched on his hand to supervise.

 He managed to shake her, and she quickly turned her attention to radishes:

 Of course, as soon as Stella saw what Max was doing, she had to fly over and help herself:

 It's a good thing Thomas doesn't mind eating radishes with grey bites missing, so nothing went to waste.

Later, Stella flew to his shoulder, so he offered her some blossoms from the turnip greens, which she investigated.  These were also a huge hit with the lizards.

 He was collecting the washed greens in a bowl so he could cook them; once again, both greys had to fly over, eat a little, and then throw the greens around:

 As we were getting ready to eat, he had two salad bowls on the kitchen island.  This picture was not in any way set up -- they both flew over to a different bowl.  Of course Stella is more interested in the lettuce in Max's bowl, even though it's exactly the same stuff in hers.

 This will probably be a weekly feature throughout the summer as they are so entranced!

We got our first box from our spring CSA last week.  Of course the curious greys had to check out stuff they hadn't seen before:

We also did some bottling of beer.  We were hoping the greys would just stay on their stands, but of course that didn't happen.

After dinner, Thomas made his dessert and left it unattended for a minute.  No surprise what happened next, though a bit surprising that they were getting along so well:
