Interesting finds

Last night, we ate lentil chili. Max could not stay away, even though we warned her it was hot and you could see the steam coming off of it. She ate around the edges and made sure each lentil was cool enough before eating it. Did she really think we weren't going to give her any after it had cooled so she had to grab what she could now?One of the things that Basil's owners sent along for him were puppy treats. He must have thrown one out of his cage, as Thomas found Rocky under Basil's cage, eating it:
When I was wrapping the parrots' pellets, Calypso would not stop begging, so he got one:
And when Max sees someone get something, of course she needs to receive equal treatment!

More Brian

I can't believe it's only been a week since we brought him home. Last night he'd been on my arm during dinner. I sneezed really loudly, and Brian got scared and jumped to Thomas's arm:Thomas then kept him. I think Brian is making inroads already! Here he was, preening Thomas's finger
One of the things Brian says is "Get me a beer!" We've only heard him say it once, but it was on the list his former owners provided to the rescue. Thomas was joking around, as we'd never give Brian beer, but it doesn't matter as Brian didn't want any:
He also said "Gimme kisses pretty birdie!" I'm not sure if that's on the list or not. He does a lot of budgie chatter, but it is so quiet and with our loud parrots, we can't hear most of it.

Brian has interesting wing coloring. His right wing, as you can see in this picture, is white. His left wing (you can see it above in the first picture of this entry) he has the normal budgie pattern.

This morning, he was on his now-routine investigation of the kitchen table during breakfast. He found his way to Thomas and started eating his toast:
Note that although Thomas was eating honey toast, Brian was just eating the dry whole wheat bread.

And a video because once Brian's gone, I want some videos to remember how fun he was:

Have I mentioned that we really hit the jackpot with Brian? I'm rather sad it took me a week to make up my mind.

Chipping

Rocky continues chipping up slices of 2X4s. I am sometimes amazed at his productivity! His preferred place continues to be in Thomas's pants:But he will use his empty shoe if Thomas isn't available:
Sometimes Max wanders around the floor and chips Rocky's chips into even smaller chips:When Rocky is in Thomas's pants and I need to walk around the living room, Thomas is kind enough to ensure that Rocky will stay put and not try to attack me:

If you look closely, you can see him moving around -- he's still chipping even while being moved up and down.

Exhausted

Thomas got home from work yesterday, exhausted. After he changed out of his work clothes, he came downstairs and collapsed. This little break was not as restful as it might have been, however, as first Max came over and demanded head pets:And then Rocky and Beeps did:

Breakfast Brian

One thing we're doing to get some safe out time for Brian is to allow him to roam the kitchen table while we're eating breakfast and the larger parrots are still in their cages. I'm going to have to get some videos of him as he is so adorable running around.

Thomas was eating his cottage cheese when Brian started coming to see what was going on. This made me so happy! Thomas never got over the loss of his favorite bird ever, Ethel, a tumor budgie who was with us for a short time and died in 2005. I am armchair psychoanalyzing here, but I think that he never really got close to Daphne and is trying to stay aloof from Brian because he doesn't want to get hurt so badly again.

Daphne loved attention, but was more laid-back and undemanding, so Thomas was able to not get close to her. I don't think Brian is going to give him that choice. And then he jumped up on his bowl! Brian didn't eat any of the cottage cheese; he just wanted to be in on the action.Thomas had to remove him so he could clean up, and he set Brian on the budgie perch:Brian didn't stay there long; preferring to hop off and run over to perch on the tissue box:
His former owners have no idea what they missed out on by keeping him in his cage. He has so much personality! I am in love!
